| The group is committed to delivering high standards of environmental performance in the management of its operations.
Plantations: Company plantations are operated in compliance with the environmental requirements of the Queensland Sugar Industry Code of Practice.
Land and water management plans have been developed in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water and these are being implemented on the company's plantations and leased farms.
Manufacturing: For each of its milling sites, the company holds current integrated authorities under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 authorising the following environmentally relevant activities:
- fuel burning, and
- sugar milling or refining
The conditions of the authorities require that, in carrying out the environmentally relevant activities, the company must take all reasonable and practical measures to prevent and/or minimise the likelihood of environmental harm being caused.
In compliance with the conditions of the authorities the company has implemented Integrated Environmental Management Systems which provide for the effective and appropriate management of the actual and potential impacts resulting from the carrying out of the environmentally relevant activities. Appropriate staff are trained in aspects of the authorities and meet regularly to ensure compliance.
